NC State Women's Hockey Plays First Competitive Game

Mark the date: February 15, 2020.  The first official game for the NC State Women's Club Hockey against the George Washington Colonials at the Fairground Annex in Winston-Salem, NC has happened!

While the result was not in favor of the Lady Wolfpack, a 5-3 loss, the scoreline is secondary to the bigger picture:  North Carolina has a women's college club hockey team.

The ladies have been preparing all year for this match-up with the Colonials with many practices and scrimmages with the likes of the NC Trailblazers and it showed today.  The Lady Wolfpack were competitive against George Washington with Emily Peterson leading the team with two goals.

This is a great day for girl's/women's hockey in North Carolina.  As long as the club sticks around gives a lot of players another competitive option to play hockey after their youth days are done (unless they go out of state to play of course).  As pointed out by David Reaugh during the livestream of the game there were a lot of players on the team from the former Carolina Eagles girls hockey program (now Carolina Junior Hurricanes Girls).  For players throughout the state the establishment of an women's ACHA team could make going to specific colleges more ideal if they want to play more hockey.

We hope that with the establishment of the women's team for NC State that other schools of higher education here in the state will follow suit in the near future.
