RYHA and Carolina Eagles Announce Merger

On February 1st the Carolina Junior Hurricanes (operated by the Raleigh Youth Hockey Association) and the Carolina Eagles announced a merger with purpose of expanding hockey opportunities for youth players.  With the merger that means the Junior Hurricanes organization will effectively absorb the Carolina Eagles brand as they will switch over from their silver, black, and white for Canes red, white, and black beginning on March 1, 2019.  Based on the press release, here is how the merge of the Jr. Canes and Eagles will work:

  • As stated before, the Eagles will now operate under the colors and logo of the Carolina Jr. Hurricanes effective on March 1st.
  • The combined association will be referred to as Carolina Junior Hurricanes Hockey Association (CJHHA).
  • The Carolina Junior Hockey Committee will be evenly split between members of the Carolina Jr. Hurricanes and the Carolina Eagles.
Also, based on the FAQ the CJHHA will be fielding between 30-35 teams throughout the various levels which means that the Junior Hurricanes will have at least one team on every level from squirt to Juniors (which the Eagles already had).  Unfortunately, this does mean the elimination of a team from every level of the Carolinas Hockey League (CHL) as the Jr. Canes and Eagles often face each other in most of the youth levels.
